Managing Pain and Fatigue During Fibromyalgia Flares in Autumn

March 13, 20254 min read

For those living with fibromyalgia, seasonal changes—especially in autumn—can often trigger flare-ups. Here in Ontario, the cooler temperatures, shorter days, fluctuating humidity, and increased weather pressure shifts can amplify the challenges of this condition. Many fibro fighters notice that pain, stiffness, and fatigue tend to worsen this time of year. However, even when aches and fatigue try to hijack my day, I don’t let fibromyalgia define the quality of my life. Instead, I implement a personal battle strategy to ensure that every day is a good day, regardless of what my body throws at me.

Setting the Tone for the Day: Morning Self-Hypnosis & Stretch Routine

Every day begins with an empowering 10-minute self-hypnosis session. This brief but powerful practice helps me set the tone for the day, grounding my mind, building mental resilience, and giving me the energy to take control from the start. I visualize the day ahead, remind myself that I am in charge of my happiness, and affirm that fibromyalgia will not dictate how I feel. This morning ritual empowers me with the mental clarity and strength to face whatever lies ahead.

After hypnosis, I follow up with some gentle stretches to wake up my body. This helps ease morning stiffness, improve circulation, and release tension built up overnight. Stretching is a small act of self-care, but it has a big impact on how my body feels throughout the day. As my coffee brews, I hydrate with a glass of water to wake my organs, preparing me to take on the day with purpose. Fibromyalgia may try to invade my peace, but I refuse to let it hijack my happiness. I AM A WARRIOR.

Managing Pain and Fatigue with Cannabis-Infused Baths

On days when my body feels especially stiff and sore, I turn to one of my favorite therapeutic remedies—a cannabis-infused bath. These baths are more than just indulgent; they are an important part of my pain management toolkit. Cannabis topicals, including bath salts, work wonders for reducing inflammation, easing muscle tension, and soothing chronic pain without psychoactive effects.

Here’s an easy recipe to create your own cannabis-infused bath salts:

DIY Cannabis-Infused Bath Salts
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Epsom salts

  • 1/2 cup Himalayan pink salt (optional, for added minerals)

  • 1/2 cup baking soda (for softening skin)

  • 2-4 tbsp of cannabis-infused coconut oil (store-bought or homemade)

  • 10-15 drops of essential oil (lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint work well)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the Epsom salts, Himalayan salt, and baking soda.

  2. Melt the cannabis-infused coconut oil if solid, then mix it thoroughly with the dry ingredients.

  3. Add the essential oils and stir well to blend everything evenly.

  4. Store the bath salts in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.

How to Use:
Add 1/2 to 1 cup of the bath salts to warm bathwater, stirring to dissolve. Soak for at least 20-30 minutes to allow the cannabinoids to absorb through your skin. Focus on deep, slow breaths during your bath to maximize relaxation.

How Cannabis Topicals Work to Relieve Pain

When applied to the skin, cannabis-infused topicals target localized pain and inflammation without producing the high associated with THC. Cannabinoids like CBD and THC bind to receptors in the skin and muscles, working to reduce inflammation, soothe tension, and enhance relaxation. For fibro fighters like me, this therapeutic effect can be a game-changer, especially during flare-ups when muscle pain and stiffness feel overwhelming.

Whether it’s through a bath or a topical balm, incorporating cannabis topicals into my routine helps keep pain manageable while promoting deep relaxation. Paired with my daily hypnosis and mindful practices, I’m able to navigate the rough days and still find joy, productivity, and peace. Fibromyalgia may bring challenges, especially in autumn, but I refuse to let it define my happiness. With tools like self-hypnosis, stretching, and cannabis therapy in my battle strategy, I remain in control of the life I live—because I am a warrior.
